Drop bolts are available in either a galvanised or painted black finish. These bolts help provide security for pairs of gates or shed doors by holding one leaf fixed in the closed position so that the second leaf can be secured to it using either a lockable surface bolt, hasp and staple or a long throw lock. For pairs of gates, we recommend, where possible, that a drop bolt be fitted to each gate leaf.

How to Use

They can be fitted to the bottom of both gates' closing stiles and used to hold gates in open or closed positions.

This type of drop bolt can also be fitted vertically at the top of one leaf of a pair of gates or shed doors to hold the top of a shed door in line with the shed frame.

Using the screws provided makes fitting quick and easy.

This type of drop bolt can be fitted to most standard or heavy frame gates and 5 bar field style gates.
Installation Tips

A small length of drop bolt tube is usually provided in the pack. This tube is normally fixed into the ground to provide a hole for the bolt to drop into.

In practice, these are often too short to be fixed securely in the ground. Instead, any type of tube with a large enough diameter for the bolt to fit into can be used.

If the tube becomes blocked, it can be easily cleaned out with a battery-powered drill and drill bit.
Wood drill bits work best as they have deep flutes to clear away the blockage.
