How to Use

The bays for cleft rail are set so that once the posts are in position, the ends of the rails go through the post and poke out the other side.

These posts are sunk into the ground in the same way as any wooden fence post.
Unless the fence is for cattle or horses or the ground is very soft, the posts are generally not concreted, just rammed up hard.

Installation Tips

A Cleft Chestnut post is supplied untreated, but you can apply additional treatment to the bottom section before putting it into the ground.

A Sawn-treated softwood plate mortised for 2 or 3 rails is used to attach cleft rail fencing to square gate posts or walls.
